Neo-nazis convicted, one re-arrested

On February 1, three known white supremacists were convicted in a Toronto court for an assault that took place in April 2000. Justin Vrdjolak, Alexan Kulbashian and Adam Kujtowski were harassing a woman on a city bus when a Black man verbally intervened. Vrdjolak initiated the three-on-one assault that continued outside the bus, the court found. Sentencing will be on March 8.

Kulbashian is also known as Alex Krause, webmaster of the Canadian Ethnic Cleansing Team and Tri-City Skins web pages. He did not appear in court on February 1, as he was arrested on a warrant earlier in the week. His computer, some clothing and racist paraphernalia were seized. Also charged is James Scott Richardson.

Top court allows secondary pickets

On January 24, the Supreme Court of Canada affirmed the right of striking workers to peacefully picket secondary locations in order to put pressure on employers.

The case involved a dispute between a Saskatchewan-based Pepsi-Cola Canada Ltd. plant and Local 558 of the Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union. The local, with support of the Canadian Labour Congress, were challenging an injunction preventing them from picketing a hotel housing replacement workers.

The ruling will take immediate effect in provinces like Ontario and Saskatchewan, which have no legislation concerning secondary picketing. It is expected this ruling will be used to strike down provincial laws that do regulate secondary picketing, including British Columbia's.
