this week in Peak history
The Russians are coming! This week in Peak history we reported a visit of four Russian scientists that were to talk about their own fields of work behind the Iron Curtain. But because of all the interest in Russia, it ended up as more of a cultural seminar, rather than the scientific seminar it had been promoted as. In this particular year, our football team had been endowed with men with expensive scholarships and impressive imported players. The team was a sure-fire playoff competitor in the NAIA championship. So their loss of 30-18 to the University of Alberta Golden Bears was devastating. Playoff dreams were dashed and their credibility was lost. Defensive coach Pokey Allen said, "This will set our whole program back five years...I wish I could go into hiding for a couple of months." Maybe it was because their coach's name was Pokey? This just didn't seem to be a good week for SFU sports as Douglas College sacked our rugby team 12-0. The team had only played four games in the season so far, and they were on a rollercoaster win/loss record.
