What's a little fire?
When did British Columbians become such incredible wimps? The latest round of forest fires and the promise of government payoffs have reinforced this regiment of complainers that cannot or will not take care of themselves, and who look to government for the answer to everything. I happen to live on an island that has no fire protection at all, without the common sense of its inhabitants; most communities like ours would go up in smoke, which does not mean that we do not have catastrophes. In our small area, there have been fires that have wiped out memories and history, but not once did these people go whining to government. As beautiful as our environment is, it can get up and bite you fast; people out here know this. So why do people still move next to airports only to complain about the noise? The real problems arise when people think they can get the best of both worlds with hydro and bears, television and salmon, and the inevitable house in the bush - the same bush that was never meant to support such a large population in the first place. To the people affected by this man made disaster, I offer my sincerest hope of recovery; just keep your hands off my money, and buy insurance next time.
