On backpacks and transit
Simon Chan
In the October 10 issue of The Peak, Tommy Thomson gave his two cents on the overcrowded bus issue ["More on transit"].
He wrote that he had no intention of taking off his fancy $100 backpack if he's standing on a crowded bus due to his fear that it will get wet and muddy. He concluded his letter by arguing that if less people get on the bus due to this "backback crowding," TransLink will just have to deal with it by adding more buses to service the route.
Tommy's attitude is nothing more then that of a selfish and spoiled child. Come on, Tommy. Show some common courtesy. We're all on the same boat (or bus, in this case). We're just trying to get to class. Taking off your backpack so that more people can get on the bus, and thus arrive to school on time, is not the end of the world. It's the Golden Rule. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
