SFSS Board watch

Delegation deliberation
The board selected its delegation for the upcoming meeting of the Canadian Federation of Students. It will include: Shawn Hunsdale, Garett Humchitt, Ariel Hornstein, Clement Apaak, and Hattie Aitken. The meeting will be held in Ottawa from the 23-26 of November and will consider several motions put forward by SFSS President Clement Apaak concerning aid to Darfur.
New ATM
Troubled with the monopoly currently enjoyed by ScotiaBank over the campus' ATMs, president Apaak has begun negotiations with VanCity for installing an ATM in the Higher Grounds coffee bar. Talks had begun last year on this topic, but were stalled allegedly because VanCity had temporarily run out of machines.
Union madness!
The SFSS is reporting an unprecedented number of active departmental student unions this semester. Somewhere in the order of 75 unions, which account for almost 95 per cent of the possible total are currently meeting and organising. Of special significance is the recent formation of the Health Sciences Student Union, which will have its first meeting this week, only a month after the faculty enrolled its first students.
Stonehenge no more
The obstacle course that was erected in Higher Grounds coffee bar this summer may soon be removed. On Wednesday, the Commercial Services Committee of the SFSS voted to begin discussions with Facilities Management on removing of the brown pillars that were added to the coffee shop as part of the summer renovations. Some concerns were raised about whether the construction of the pillars was done to specifications, and the committee also voted to seek compensation for the costs of construction should this be the case.
