Pat on the back for the SFSS
.

Thanks to all the students who voted in this year's reading break referendum. A Spring mid-semester reading break was supported by 60 per cent of votes cast. We are pleased to let you know that the university will be implementing a Spring reading break for the first time next year. The break will take place on February 15 and 16, 1999. This is a major victory for students at SFU, as we were one of the only universities left in Canada without such a break. This positive outcome shows that organized student activity and campus democracy can and do work.

Compliments to Ron Heath, dean of student services, whose understandings and hard work helped with the quick and easy implementation of the break. Thanks again, on behalf of your student society, to all students who supported the push for a reading break. Hopefully such organized efforts will continue to be successful in the future. Enjoy the reading break next spring, we've earned it!
